Parish Church

Two churches in one

The two parishes of St Mary the Virgin, Great Abington and St Mary’s, Little Abington merged in 2004 to become a United Parish with the two churches, both of which have Norman origins, sharing Common Worship and BCP services throughout each month and aim to provide Holy Communion every Sunday in the Parish and Evensong monthly in Little Abington.  We have a good relationship with the URC and sometimes share services together.

St. Mary's, Little Abington has an open churchyard for burials and a Garden of Remembrance for interment of ashes. Great Abington's churchyard is closed.

Both churches are used on alternate Sundays for a range of different services: Little Abington seats just over 120 people, whilst Great Abington with a capacity for 175 is where most seasonal services are held and in 2016 benefitted from a £185,000 building project that installed a kitchenette, toilets and a community area.

Both churches are now part of the 'Seven Churches', a community of Church of England parishes in the Granta Vale

Services

Our services are listed on the back page of the monthly parish magazine and include Holy Communion, BCP Evensong, Messy Church, Mums and Toddlers lunch, as well as a joint Benefice service, held on the first Sunday of the month in Balsham.  Additional services and events for the coming year can be viewed here.
